One question I've been asked a lot lately by my lovely ladies is how to stop hair loss. There are lots of things you can do to help regrow your hair, but perhaps we should look at the causes first.
There are a lot of contributing factors here. Recent illness can affect your hair growth and make it fall out. I myself had a nasty chest infection two years running which caused hair loss, receding hairline, thinning dry fragile hair. Its awful, affects your confidence. A few people have noted COVID as a cause, but I've not found any research to prove it as yet. If you suspect something is going on with your health always consult a doctor.
Hormonal problems can affect hair growth a lot, whether you have PCOS, or are perimenopausal or menopausal. Male pattern baldness we all know about but hormone shifts can cause it in women too.
A poor diet will affect your hair. Think of your body as a train with your hair skin and nails on the last carriage, the nutrient trolly starts at the front, dropping off its vitamins, minerals, protein, carbs etc, on the way. By the time it gets to your hair it gets what is left, if you don't eat well, your hair misses out. Eat plenty of fruit, veg, salad, quality meat. fish dairy etc, take supplements if you need to. Drink plenty of water!
Stress!!!! We all know a lot of stress isn't good for us too. Whether we twiddle our hair and break it, or even pull it out, or continued stress causes it to fall out, it is an effect we need to deal with. Self care is a good place to start. Ask me how I can help you with stress.
Now, how can I help? There are lots of things I can help you with. First lets address breakage. Look at your routine with your hair. How do you look after it? How much heat do you use, and do you use a thermal protector? Make sure you are using a good hairbrush which isn't tearing your hair and that it is clean! (When did you last wash your hair brush?) A regular trim will keep breakage at bay, even if you are growing your hair, you can ask for a micro trim. To get length leave it longer between cuts, up to 12 weeks, but don't skip it altogether, split ends look unsightly, and will continue to split further and further up the hair shaft. To deal with split ends without losing a huge chunk of length, you can book yourself a split end trim, a specialist technique which removes the dry rough splits, leaving more length that if you had cut it off! This does include a trim of your ends too. It takes a bit longer than a normal trim so allow yourself time to have a relax with a coffee while I do it.
Using a thermal protector will put a barrier between your hair and heat sources such as the dryer, straighteners, tongs, even the sun! It should be applied to wet hair, and again to dry if you add more heat after blowdrying it. Use a lower heat. dryer and straightener! 200c on your straighteners is designed for very coarse curly wiry hair. You can go down to 180 or even 160 to reduce damage and drying. (yes I sell a good one, hit me up) You may even need to have a heat ban for a bit in combination with a treatment regime.
Look at your hair care products. Using cheap shampoo strips your hair of the oils and moisture, you may as well be using floor cleaner on it. Cheap conditioner is great! For shaving your legs! It often has silicone in it. Now not all silicones are created equal. Yes it detangles, but it also can build up a film on your hair leaving like a thin layer of cling film on the hair shaft (yuck) which becomes dull and increases tangling. Not all care products are created equal. They want you to buy it to make a profit. They use the cheapest ingredients in the lowest quantities then fill it up with cheap bulking agents. Ask me about the products I recommend. They are vegan friendly, have a lot of good quality plant based ingredients which are sustainable, some are organic and they are formulated especially to be good for your hair. I sell them to give you your best hair day so you look good. You only use a tiny bit as they are concentrated, so last you longer.
There are specific shampoos and conditioners and treatments here to reduce hair fall and encourage new growth, gimme a shout to find out about more.
What else? Supplements! I also sell Organic Colour Systems RepHair supplements, which decrease hair fall as well as giving you all the goodies to make your hair grow well. I used them last year to increase my hair growth and thickness and they do work.
If you are not sure what to try do talk to me and I will help you. I hope this has helped you some way towards a solution.
Nikki
